Quebecor’s European operations produce magazines, catalogs, retail inserts, direct mail products and directories. They include 17 printing and related facilities employing approximately 3,500 people in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Spain and Sweden. The sale is not subject to the approval of either Quebecor World’s or HHBV’s shareholders. The only condition to closing, according to Quebecor, is court approval. Quebecor World has agreed to sell its European operations to a group of Netherlands-based investors, the Hombergh/De Pundert Group, for more than $200 million. The transaction is expected to close in June.According to Quebecor World CEO Jacques Mallette, the sale is “an important step in our restructuring activities that we believe should enable us to exit creditor protection in North America as a stronger player in our industry.”Earlier this year, Quebecor filed for bankruptcy protection and announced that it had entered into a $1 billion financing deal with Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley. Under the terms of the acquisition, HHBV has deposited nearly $80 million in escrow to be released to Quebecor once the deal is finalized. HHBV also will assume about $100 million of net debt, and a $33.5 million five-year note bearing interest at 7 percent per year, which will be payable to Quebecor World following finalization of the deal.
Ram Gopal Varma and Junior NTRCollage of photos taken from Twitter and FacebookRam Gopal Varma says that only Junior NTR can be the saviour of the Telugu Desam Party and should save it if he has any respect for his late grandfather NT Rama Rao.Ram Gopal Varma has been vehemently criticising TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu ever since he launched Lakshmi’s NTR, which is a biopic based on the last days of late legendary actor-turned-politician NT Rama Rao. He intensified his attack on the former CM of Andhra Pradesh after the latter stalled the release of his film in the state. He was the happiest man when the TDP failed badly in the elections.Ever since the election results were out, Ram Gopal Varma has consistently been mocking Chandrababu Naidu. But he seemed to cross all the limits on Friday when he made a series of tweets urging Junior NTR to take the horns of the party, which is also the wish of many fans of the Nandamuri family.RGV wrote, “If Tarak takes over TDP, all people will immediately forget TDP’s disastrous failure..NTR’s grandson can be the only saviour and if he has any respect for his grandfather he should immoderately save TDP Jai NTR Jai TARAK Hey @tarak9999 if u have any respect for ur grandfather, u should save the TDP party NTR founded from the man who backstabbed him then and his son who’s front stabbing it now ..Jai NTR (sic).”Ram Gopal Varma also conducted a Twitter survey – “TDP party will be much greater with its leader as TARAK? @tarak9999.” In 17 hours, his poll got 33,822 votes 79 percent of which agreed with his opinion on Junior, while 21 percent people felt he is wrong. He tweeted, “Oho? 79% aa? Abbaa? Does this mean even TDP party people also want @tarak9999 only? Or are they just 21%? ..Just asking.”Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Varma cautioned Junior NTR not join hands with Chandrababu Naidu, like his uncle Balakrishna. The filmmaker tweeted, “I request u @tarak9999 just as an NTR fan, not to join the backstabber of ur grandfather, like the way ur babai did ..What ur babai did is a bigger vennupotu than what the alludu did.”Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP had won 117 Assembly seats in the 2014 elections, while YSRSCP got victory in 70 constituencies. But this year, the TDP has managed to win only 23 seats, while the Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party emerged victorious with 151 seats. After seeing this humiliating defeat, many followers of the TDP felt that Junior NTR should be brought to the party to save it.
Share JORGE SANHUEZA-LYON / KUT NEWSHouston in August 2017 days after Hurricane Harvey hit.The flood control district in the Houston area is considering a proposal to build massive underground tunnels to drain floodwaters from bayous across the county.Harris County Flood Control District officials said the idea could be a bold answer following Hurricane Harvey to dramatically improve Houston’s defenses against deadly floods. The Houston Chronicle reports that the project could cost several billion dollars and take several years to complete. It would build a network of deep tunnels to carry water from several of Houston’s waterways, so that they’d be able to keep a 100-year storm event within their banks.Republican Rep. John Culberson of Houston said this project could be partially funded by Federal Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation grants.Commissioners will vote Tuesday, March 27, on whether to pursue a feasibility study to assess the tunnel proposal.
June 14, 2016 Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. On June 23, the people of Britain will decide whether the United Kingdom should withdraw from the European Union. It’s a question that hasn’t been up for debate since 1975, when voters considerd a similar issue.Related: Why Market Research MattersHow will they decide this time? If you were to consult online polling data, you’d think the referendum was a dead heat. Back in late May, prominent U.K. pollster ICM showed that voters were evenly divided, with the percentages of those wanting “out” and those wanting “in” practically tied, at 45 percent.YouGov also shows the yeas and nays practically tied — and playing tug-of-war over just 1 percentage point. But phone polls and statement by pundits reveal a far different forecast. Judging by those sources, the likelihood of Britain’s leaving the Union is mighty slim, with “remain” commanding a double-digit lead in multiple phone polls from the past month. That discrepancy might lead some people to toss out polling data altogether. If that U.K. data can’t provide a true picture of public sentiment, why even bother gathering it? But the actual situation is quite different: Because, when it comes to polling, the important thing isn’t the data itself but how you capture and interpret it.Surveys: startup marvel or mirage?Consider the startup space, for example. Startups crash for all sorts of reasons, but an alarming percentage of startup failures can be tied to founders who didn’t do their research. Smart startups, on the other hand, conduct research that informs product development, prevents product-market fit problems and measures brand sentiments.Such market research, by surveys, isn’t common among geopolitical organizations. But, what startups have in common with those geopolitical organizations is their need to pay close attention to how their surveys are gathered and interpreted. The problem? Raw data is always up for interpretation, so entrepreneurs conducting surveys must think critically about the methods, questions and biases behind their results.Related: 5 Ways Customer Data Can Up Your Customer-Experience GameTo truly take the temperature of your particular entrepreneurial market niche, be sure to put controls in place that promote accurate collection and assessment of data. Here are some recommended strategies:1. Shut out biases at every turn.Like dye tossed into a washing machine, biases can quickly taint every data point a survey turns up. One of the greatest sources of bias can come from a study’s moderator: Everything from this person’s facial expression, to tone, to manner of dress, can adversely color results. To guard against this problem, conduct surveys anonymously, asking only for information central to the survey. Use mobile or in-app surveys to capture data conveniently. Customers are clamoring to interact with brands online, which is why it’s so surprising that just 17 percent of researchers leverage mobile surveys.2. Make ‘opt-in’ the standard.Customers want to respond to surveys on their terms, so let them opt-in on their own schedules. That’s where an in-app survey comes in handy: It doesn’t force itself upon users, so it prevents skewed results from people who just click through absentmindedly.Try rewarding respondents with fewer ads, which most people would rather avoid entirely. A recent study found that 83 percent of people surveyed said they preferred surveys to comparatively intrusive mobile ads.3. Screen users at the start. When structured properly, a screening question can significantly boost a survey sample’s relevance. Filter respondents by their answers to questions about attitudes, behaviors, opinions or prior experiences. For example, if you manufacture watches and want to know about consumers’ favorite time pieces, you might ask, “When’s the last time you wore a watch?” Use the results to screen out bare-wristed users irrelevant to your study.4. Keep it brief.Let’s face it: Nobody’s going to spend half an hour answering questions out of the goodness of his or her heart. So, considering that 52 percent of people won’t spend even three minutes on a survey, limit your questions to 10 or fewer.Start by determining the survey’s objective: What do you want to glean from the findings? Then, work through the questions and answers, sticking to 140 characters or fewer for each. Eighty percent of people abandon surveys halfway through, so prioritize your questions to focus on what you really need to know; and chop it off after 10.Yes, ten is tough, but it’s do-able, with a focused survey. After Uber changed its logo, we wanted to determine whether that was a wise branding move. It took just five questions and 2,000 respondents to arrive at an answer: 44 percent of respondents didn’t know what the logo represented.Related: 5 Steps to Creating Effective Customer SurveysIn the end, polls and surveys can’t tell the future, but they can tell you what consumers are thinking. So, take survey data for what it’s worth, but never take it at face value. As with most things in life, it’s always up to interpretation.
