Jon Wong/Roadshow The Ford Fusion sedan is expected to go out of production in the coming years, all part of the Blue Oval’s plan to scale back its car lineup in order to build more crossovers and SUVs. A new report from CarsDirect this week confirms the 325-horsepower Fusion Sport will be the first variant to go — in fact, it won’t even live to see 2020.A Ford spokesperson told CarsDirect that discontinuing the Sport will allow the company to focus on higher-volume, more popular Fusion models. The rest of the Fusion line received a modest update for the 2019 model year, which included the standard fitment of Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 driver assistance tech. The Fusion Sport was introduced in 2017, and honestly, we rather liked it. With a 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 under its hood, the Fusion Sport put 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque to the ground, and standard all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers made it pretty engaging to drive on winding roads. It was a real sleeper, and came loaded with driver assistance features and Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment tech. That said, the Fusion Sport was kind of a hard sell. Despite its ample power and sophisticated suspension tech (it could even mitigate potholes), it was never quite as sharp as similarly sized rivals from Germany and Japan. Even now, at over $40,000, a 2019 Fusion Sport is some $3,600 more expensive than a comparably equipped, all-wheel-drive Fusion Titanium, which uses a more efficient (but still plenty potent) 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. It’s unclear exactly when the rest of the Fusion range will get the ax, though we’ve heard the Fusion name could be resurrected on a Subaru Outback-like crossover-wagon thing. For now, though, pour one out for the Fusion Sport: the powerful midsizer that struggled to gain traction. Emmanuel Azih, CEO of AzertWhile a traditional GPS system can get your car to its destination, it doesn’t have navigation abilities once you’re on site. Emmanuel Azih, CEO of Azert hopes the Smart(er) Socket iBeacon can change that. The platform is the first piece of technology released by the D.C.-based startup company. While it looks and functions like an ordinary wall socket, Smart(er) Socket’s micro-location technology will allow people to function in hyper-local spaces.Azih was awarded $122,500, in October of 2014, to accelerate the project by the Digital DC Tech Fund, presented by Mayor Vincent Gray. This month, students at Howard University, the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia will build mobile applications utilizing the platform. “One of those applications could be finding easier access to classrooms [within a building]; or instead of cooling and heating just based on timing—from 9 to 5, for example—they can actually cool and heat based on occupancy of a room,” Azih told the AFRO on Aug. 13.After being approached by the Federal Communications Commission, Azih also said he views the platform as a premier commodity for public safety. “We’ve all watched CSI and think there’s this system that will track us, but the reality is if you’re in a building and you dial 911, it’s relying on GPS technology and sometimes Wi-Fi so it’s really hard to get an accurate location of where you are,” he said. “In terms of an emergency situation when time really is of the essence, you have a lot of first responders who either go into the wrong building or are delayed in response time, resulting in more injuries and sometimes even death.”Professors at each educational institution will incorporate mobile application development into their curriculum based on Azih’s suggestions. Students will also have free reign to produce applications based on their own needs and preferences.“We’re pretty excited about this because micro location in this manner hasn’t been done before,” he said.“When I was a kid, my brother and I built weird location tracking devices to figure out when our parents were coming in our rooms and ever since then I’ve always been a thinker. I became an engineer [after] that,” he says.As an entrepreneur in D.C.’s growing tech economy, Azih plans to eventually open the platform to other software developers so that mobile devices can be more aware of surroundings in hotels, airports, hospitals, restaurants and virtually any indoor space that has use for such technology. To learn more about Smarter Socket, visit smartersocket.com.
Zumba is not an exercise routine, it’s a philosophy of life. It’s an exotic cultural experience that includes dance steps and music from all over the world. The basic elements of Zumba are fun-filled and energetic, which makes it one of the most popular dance forms in the world. Kolkata: With India’s fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman returning to his homeland on Friday night after being in Pakistan’s custody for two days, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed his return.”Welcome home #AbhinandanVarthaman Welcome home sweet home,” Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle. Banerjee on Thursday accused the Narendra Modi government of seeking political mileage over the air strike carried out by the Indian Air Force in Balakot, stressing on the fact that the Centre is yet to divulge the truth about the terrorists allegedly killed in the strike. Also Read – Bose & Gandhi: More similar than apart, says Sugata Bose”The people of India have a right to know what exactly happened during the air strike. The Centre must allow our forces to speak the truth. They should also come clean on the number of terrorists claimed to have been killed during the air strike,” Banerjee had maintained. While speaking to the media at Nabanna on Thursday, the CM hit out at the Modi government, saying: “Ahead of the forthcoming elections, the Centre is keen on deriving political mileage from the air strike that has been conducted by our Air Force. The jawans defend our borders and we all hold them in high esteem. But politicising the whole issue only to satisfy one’s political interest is condemnable.”
June 14, 2016 Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. On June 23, the people of Britain will decide whether the United Kingdom should withdraw from the European Union. It’s a question that hasn’t been up for debate since 1975, when voters considerd a similar issue.Related: Why Market Research MattersHow will they decide this time? If you were to consult online polling data, you’d think the referendum was a dead heat. Back in late May, prominent U.K. pollster ICM showed that voters were evenly divided, with the percentages of those wanting “out” and those wanting “in” practically tied, at 45 percent.YouGov also shows the yeas and nays practically tied — and playing tug-of-war over just 1 percentage point. But phone polls and statement by pundits reveal a far different forecast. Judging by those sources, the likelihood of Britain’s leaving the Union is mighty slim, with “remain” commanding a double-digit lead in multiple phone polls from the past month. That discrepancy might lead some people to toss out polling data altogether. If that U.K. data can’t provide a true picture of public sentiment, why even bother gathering it? But the actual situation is quite different: Because, when it comes to polling, the important thing isn’t the data itself but how you capture and interpret it.Surveys: startup marvel or mirage?Consider the startup space, for example. Startups crash for all sorts of reasons, but an alarming percentage of startup failures can be tied to founders who didn’t do their research. Smart startups, on the other hand, conduct research that informs product development, prevents product-market fit problems and measures brand sentiments.Such market research, by surveys, isn’t common among geopolitical organizations. But, what startups have in common with those geopolitical organizations is their need to pay close attention to how their surveys are gathered and interpreted. The problem? Raw data is always up for interpretation, so entrepreneurs conducting surveys must think critically about the methods, questions and biases behind their results.Related: 5 Ways Customer Data Can Up Your Customer-Experience GameTo truly take the temperature of your particular entrepreneurial market niche, be sure to put controls in place that promote accurate collection and assessment of data. Here are some recommended strategies:1. Shut out biases at every turn.Like dye tossed into a washing machine, biases can quickly taint every data point a survey turns up. One of the greatest sources of bias can come from a study’s moderator: Everything from this person’s facial expression, to tone, to manner of dress, can adversely color results. To guard against this problem, conduct surveys anonymously, asking only for information central to the survey. Use mobile or in-app surveys to capture data conveniently. Customers are clamoring to interact with brands online, which is why it’s so surprising that just 17 percent of researchers leverage mobile surveys.2. Make ‘opt-in’ the standard.Customers want to respond to surveys on their terms, so let them opt-in on their own schedules. That’s where an in-app survey comes in handy: It doesn’t force itself upon users, so it prevents skewed results from people who just click through absentmindedly.Try rewarding respondents with fewer ads, which most people would rather avoid entirely. A recent study found that 83 percent of people surveyed said they preferred surveys to comparatively intrusive mobile ads.3. Screen users at the start. When structured properly, a screening question can significantly boost a survey sample’s relevance. Filter respondents by their answers to questions about attitudes, behaviors, opinions or prior experiences. For example, if you manufacture watches and want to know about consumers’ favorite time pieces, you might ask, “When’s the last time you wore a watch?” Use the results to screen out bare-wristed users irrelevant to your study.4. Keep it brief.Let’s face it: Nobody’s going to spend half an hour answering questions out of the goodness of his or her heart. So, considering that 52 percent of people won’t spend even three minutes on a survey, limit your questions to 10 or fewer.Start by determining the survey’s objective: What do you want to glean from the findings? Then, work through the questions and answers, sticking to 140 characters or fewer for each. Eighty percent of people abandon surveys halfway through, so prioritize your questions to focus on what you really need to know; and chop it off after 10.Yes, ten is tough, but it’s do-able, with a focused survey. After Uber changed its logo, we wanted to determine whether that was a wise branding move. It took just five questions and 2,000 respondents to arrive at an answer: 44 percent of respondents didn’t know what the logo represented.Related: 5 Steps to Creating Effective Customer SurveysIn the end, polls and surveys can’t tell the future, but they can tell you what consumers are thinking. So, take survey data for what it’s worth, but never take it at face value. As with most things in life, it’s always up to interpretation.
