Jon Wong/Roadshow The Ford Fusion sedan is expected to go out of production in the coming years, all part of the Blue Oval’s plan to scale back its car lineup in order to build more crossovers and SUVs. A new report from CarsDirect this week confirms the 325-horsepower Fusion Sport will be the first variant to go — in fact, it won’t even live to see 2020.A Ford spokesperson told CarsDirect that discontinuing the Sport will allow the company to focus on higher-volume, more popular Fusion models. The rest of the Fusion line received a modest update for the 2019 model year, which included the standard fitment of Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 driver assistance tech.The Fusion Sport was introduced in 2017, and honestly, we rather liked it. With a 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 under its hood, the Fusion Sport put 325 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque to the ground, and standard all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers made it pretty engaging to drive on winding roads. It was a real sleeper, and came loaded with driver assistance features and Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment tech.That said, the Fusion Sport was kind of a hard sell. Despite its ample power and sophisticated suspension tech (it could even mitigate potholes), it was never quite as sharp as similarly sized rivals from Germany and Japan. Even now, at over $40,000, a 2019 Fusion Sport is some $3,600 more expensive than a comparably equipped, all-wheel-drive Fusion Titanium, which uses a more efficient (but still plenty potent) 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.It’s unclear exactly when the rest of the Fusion range will get the ax, though we’ve heard the Fusion name could be resurrected on a Subaru Outback-like crossover-wagon thing. For now, though, pour one out for the Fusion Sport: the powerful midsizer that struggled to gain traction. A head-on collision between two buses on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh Highway claims life of four people.A head-on collision between two buses on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh Highway left four people dead and 29 others injured on Thursday morning, reports UNB. The deceased are Babul, 28, a minibus driver Abul Kalam Azad, 50, son of Abdul Majid, Mojibur Rahman, 75, and Quamruzzaman, 35, of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. The accident took place at Salandar Bhutpara in the upazila around 10:00am. A Panchagarh-bound bus hit the Thakurgaon-bound minibus of ‘Nirnoy Paribahan’, killing three people on the spot, said sub-inspector Firoza Begum of Sadar police station.Police and fire service officials rescued the victims and took 22 of them to the Sadar Hospital. Later, another injured man succumbed to his injuries at Sadar Hospital in the afternoon.
Each funeral for the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High massacre is different, yet the same: the mourning relatives, teens walking in clutches wearing black, politicians paying their respects, media cameras pointing at the entrance from across the parking lot.And each service takes its toll on the young mourners, many of them attending more friends’ funerals in a span of days than many middle-aged people have in their lifetimes. Services for 14 Stoneman Douglas students, the athletic director, a coach and a geography teacher began Friday, two days after the shooting, and will end in the next few days.Erica Sparrow, a 17-year-old senior, said Monday that she went to her first funeral a couple of weeks ago, “now I have one every day.” She and her friend, Lauren Kuperman, also 17, began ticking off names — Meadow Pollack from Friday, Joaquin Oliver from Saturday and Alaina Petty’s on Monday. Three more Tuesday, another Wednesday. It’s both difficult and cathartic, the girls said.“It kind of helps but at the same time it makes me sad,” Sparrow said.Stoneman Douglas senior Lewis Mizen said Monday he had never attended a funeral for someone his own age before the weekend. Back in late May, prominent U.K. pollster ICM showed that voters were evenly divided, with the percentages of those wanting “out” and those wanting “in” practically tied, at 45 percent.YouGov also shows the yeas and nays practically tied — and playing tug-of-war over just 1 percentage point.But phone polls and statement by pundits reveal a far different forecast. Judging by those sources, the likelihood of Britain’s leaving the Union is mighty slim, with “remain” commanding a double-digit lead in multiple phone polls from the past month.That discrepancy might lead some people to toss out polling data altogether. If that U.K. data can’t provide a true picture of public sentiment, why even bother gathering it? But the actual situation is quite different: Because, when it comes to polling, the important thing isn’t the data itself but how you capture and interpret it.Surveys: startup marvel or mirage?Consider the startup space, for example. Startups crash for all sorts of reasons, but an alarming percentage of startup failures can be tied to founders who didn’t do their research. Smart startups, on the other hand, conduct research that informs product development, prevents product-market fit problems and measures brand sentiments.Such market research, by surveys, isn’t common among geopolitical organizations. But, what startups have in common with those geopolitical organizations is their need to pay close attention to how their surveys are gathered and interpreted.The problem? Here are some recommended strategies:1. Shut out biases at every turn.Like dye tossed into a washing machine, biases can quickly taint every data point a survey turns up. One of the greatest sources of bias can come from a study’s moderator: Everything from this person’s facial expression, to tone, to manner of dress, can adversely color results.To guard against this problem, conduct surveys anonymously, asking only for information central to the survey. Use mobile or in-app surveys to capture data conveniently. Customers are clamoring to interact with brands online, which is why it’s so surprising that just 17 percent of researchers leverage mobile surveys.2. Make ‘opt-in’ the standard.Customers want to respond to surveys on their terms, so let them opt-in on their own schedules. That’s where an in-app survey comes in handy: It doesn’t force itself upon users, so it prevents skewed results from people who just click through absentmindedly.Try rewarding respondents with fewer ads, which most people would rather avoid entirely. A recent study found that 83 percent of people surveyed said they preferred surveys to comparatively intrusive mobile ads.3. Screen users at the start.When structured properly, a screening question can significantly boost a survey sample’s relevance. Filter respondents by their answers to questions about attitudes, behaviors, opinions or prior experiences.For example, if you manufacture watches and want to know about consumers’ favorite time pieces, you might ask, “When’s the last time you wore a watch?” Use the results to screen out bare-wristed users irrelevant to your study.4. Keep it brief.Let’s face it: Nobody’s going to spend half an hour answering questions out of the goodness of his or her heart. So, considering that 52 percent of people won’t spend even three minutes on a survey, limit your questions to 10 or fewer.Start by determining the survey’s objective: What do you want to glean from the findings? Then, work through the questions and answers, sticking to 140 characters or fewer for each. Eighty percent of people abandon surveys halfway through, so prioritize your questions to focus on what you really need to know; and chop it off after 10.Yes, ten is tough, but it’s do-able, with a focused survey. After Uber changed its logo, we wanted to determine whether that was a wise branding move.
